Lauren F. Winner
Ph.D. candidate American History (Columbia University). B.A. History and Religion (Columbia University); M.Phil. Historical Studies (Cambridge).
Ms. Winner's dissertation is on Anglicanism in the eighteenth-century Atlantic world. Her previous academic publications include articles on Jewish families in the Confederacy, antebellum Southern Jewish fortune telling, and second-wave feminism in the South. She has also co-written a book on contemporary American Protestantism with Randall Balmer entitled, Protestants in America.
Winner's popular publications include dozens of book reviews and magazine articles, and have appeared in periodicals ranging from the New York Times Book Review to the Christian Century. The subjects of her writing range from the New Western History to Christian dieting programs--and a forthcoming spiritual memoir to be published by Algonquin in the fall of 2002.
Ms. Winner is currently a member of All Angels' Episcopal Church in Manhattan.
