Narrative
The City and Congregation Workgroup convened on Friday, February 7, 2003, to hear from the personal experiences of the Rev. George Telford, a member of the workgroup. Rev. Telford was the minister at Westminster Presbyterian Church on Rugby Road in Charlottesville during some of the most significant times for the Civil Rights Movement in the city and within the University of Virginia in the early to mid-1960's.
His presentation (131k, pdf), entitled "The Connection Between Faith and Social Action: An Effort at Lived Theology", reflects on his career as a pastor-theologian and Christian activist, with special attention given to his ministry and activities in Charlottesville.
