God’s Beautiful City: Christian Mission After Christendom

Posted on May 7, 2015 by PLT Staff

Paper presented by Stephen Fowl during the third meeting of the Lived Theology and Community Building Workgroup in Los Angeles, California. Stephen Fowl examines the beauty of the city of Zion and how God’s glory may be revealed in that beauty. In his exploration, Fowl finds that in the beauty of the God’s city lies a call for peace, reconciliation and mission.

Excerpt: “The church became the place where Christians could point and say, here is where you will find both a testimony to God’s redemption of the world and a foretaste of what that redemption will look like. God’s beautiful city was no longer spatially tied to mount Zion. It was mobile. Indeed, it was found throughout the known world.”
