Sidewalks in the Kingdom

Posted on April 3, 2015 by PLT Staff

Recording of a lecture given by Eric Jacobsen at the Spring Institute for Lived Theology 2006 in Charlottesville, Virginia. Jacobsen discusses zoning and its effect on suburbia. He explores what distinguishes cities from suburbs and relates this to a Christian vision of built environment.

Excerpt: “We’re just not investing in beauty any more. The suburbs are ugly because the buildings don’t tell a story, because the public realm hasn’t been built very beautifully, and because oftentimes the buildings are all of a certain pattern that doesn’t have any individual flavor.”
