Whatever Happened to Racial Reconciliation? The Future of a White Evangelical Obsession

Recording of a lecture given by Soong-Chun Rah at the Spring Institute for Lived Theology 2009 in Charlottesville, Virginia. Rah takes issue with the way in which “white” and “evangelical” have become synonymous. He attempts to redefine evangelical, and explore what it means for racial reconciliation.
Excerpt: “As soon as theology comes from the margins or outside of that normative whiteness, you start giving it a name: liberation theology, black theology, feminist theology, Min-Jung theology. So now by giving it this added name, you’re saying that theology is not normative…. We can’t enter into reconciliation dialogue if there’s already the assumption of this is what defines evangelicalism.”
