A Quiet Revolution: A Group Discussion on the Lived Theology of John M. Perkins

Posted on March 31, 2015 by PLT Staff

Recording of a group discussion on the lived theology of John M. Perkins led by Charles Marsh at the Spring Institute for Lived Theology 2009 in Charlottesville, Virginia. Marsh begins by introducing the Project on Lived Theology and its mission, then introduces John M. Perkins and his model of reconciliation, relocation and redistribution.

Excerpt: “John Perkins’ story is in a large part the story of that unfinished business, if you will, of the civil rights movement. One of the things we might want to explore is why was his story overlooked? … Certainly his rich gumbo of black nationalism, Bible-centered piety, some good old fashioned other-worldliness and holiness, a kind of socialist thing on the one hand and capitalist thing on the other hand…. It’s a complicated legacy.”
