Vincent Lloyd
Vincent Lloyd is Professor of Theology and Religious Studies at Villanova University, where he directs the Center for Political Theology and helps lead broader conversations about the intersections of religion, race, and public life. He received his B.A. in Religion from Princeton University and his Ph.D. in Rhetoric from the University of California, Berkeley.
Dr. Lloyd has held fellowships from the American Council of Learned Societies, the Louisville Institute, Durham University, Emory University, and Notre Dame, and in 2024 he was named a Guggenheim Fellow.
His books include Harold Cruse: Critic, Writer, Teacher (Yale University Press, 2026); What Is Political Theology? (with Luke Bretherton and Valentina Napolitano, Columbia University Press, 2025); Black Dignity: The Struggle Against Domination (Yale University Press, 2022); In Defense of Charisma (Columbia University Press, 2018); Religion of the Field Negro: On Black Secularism and Black Theology (Fordham University Press, 2017) From 2012 to 2024 he co‑edited the journal Political Theology, and he now co‑edits the Transforming Political Theologies book series for Routledge.
