John M. Perkins

John M. Perkins is a leader and major figure of the civil rights movement of the 1960s who founded Voice of Calvary Ministries, a Christian community development ministry, with his wife, Vera Mae. In 1983, the Perkinses established the John and Vera Mae Perkins Foundation for Reconciliation, Justice and Christian Community Development.

Perkins’ life and ministry were the subject of the Spring Institute for Lived Theology 2009, and he gave a History is Lunch presentation at the Mississippi Department of Archives and History. He is the subject of many resources available on the Project on Lived Theology website. He was also consultant for the Lived Theology and Race Workgroup.
